CHAPTER 25: THE TEAR IN THE SKY

The battlefield did not calm.

It sharpened.

Faris moved like desert heat, axe rising and falling in brutal arcs. Each strike ended cleanly. Each step forced the intruders back.

Across the courtyard, Kim Mirae’s naginata carved precise, silent lines. No wasted motion. No emotion. One cut. One fall.

Students were being pulled behind a tightening defensive ring of teachers.

At its center—

Katsuro Shinji stood with two blades drawn.

A thin layer of aura wrapped tightly along the edges of his swords. Controlled. Focused.

Then the air shifted.

He felt it before he saw it.

Gabriel Knox stepped forward.

No explosion.

No theatrical aura flare.

Just weight.

The hum of the portal deepened.

Shinji adjusted his stance.

They moved at the same time.

Steel collided.

Gabriel’s strikes carried dense aura reinforcement—heavy, crushing. Shinji deflected with one blade, countered with the other, feet sliding across fractured stone.

Second exchange.

Faster.

Gabriel pushed with brute force. Shinji yielded half a step, redirected, and carved across Gabriel’s ribs.

Not deep.

Third exchange.

Aura surged along Gabriel’s weapon. Shinji crossed both blades and absorbed the impact. The stone beneath his heels cracked.

Then Shinji shifted.

A feint high.

A cut low.

Gabriel reacted a fraction too late.

Twin blades crossed his chest in a clean, decisive pattern.

Blood spread across his uniform.

Surprise entered his eyes.

Shinji did not hesitate.

A final thrust.

Precise.

Gabriel collapsed.

Silence rolled across the courtyard.

The remaining intruders faltered. Teachers pressed forward. Weapons fell.

For the first time since the attack began—

Relief.

Faris lowered his axe slightly.

Kim Mirae’s stance relaxed by a single degree.

Hari exhaled, not realizing he had been holding his breath.

Then the portal’s hum changed.

Low.

Vibrating.

The tear in space rippled.

The air grew heavy—not crushing, but undeniable.

Fine cracks spread across the stone near the portal’s edge.

Every fighter felt it.

Faris’ orange aura flickered once, then stabilized.

Mirae lowered her center of gravity without conscious thought.

Hari felt something press against his chest, like invisible fingers pressing his lungs.

Shinji turned.

He understood immediately.

The portal widened.

Slowly.

Deliberately.

From its depths—

A Bident of condensed aura tore forward.

Too fast to follow.

Shinji moved.

Both blades rose.

Impact.

The Bident sliced cleanly through his right wrist.

A sharp metallic sound rang out as one sword hit the ground.

Blood sprayed across stone.

A student screamed.

Hari froze.

For a split second, Faris stepped forward instinctively.

The Bident continued past—

Then stopped midair.

Reversed.

And vanished back into the widening portal.

No voice followed.

No figure appeared.

Only pressure.

Shinji dropped to one knee—not from fear, not from surrender—but from force. Blood streamed from the severed wrist, dark against the courtyard floor.

He steadied himself with his remaining blade.

The portal windened another inch.

Aura rolled outward like distant thunder.

No one knelt.

But no one misunderstood.

Gabriel had not been the real threat.

And something far greater had just reached through.

The tear in the sky continued to widen.
